You want to turn off the passcode lock on your iPhone, but the Turn Passcode Off option is greyed out? Why doesn't the iPhone let you turn off the passcode? Now, this article will cover some possible causes and effective solutions to this problem.

Turn Passcode Off greyed out

Fix 1: Delete work email account

Corporate email accounts and school email accounts, such as Microsoft Exchange accounts, usually have security mechanisms that force you to have a device passcode. If you have added one such email account on your iPhone, it won't allow you to turn off your passcode and the Turn Passcode Off option is greyed out. So, that's the problem. In this case, deleting the email account from the iPhone will solve the problem.

Step 1: Open Settings and choose Passwords & Accounts.

tap Passwords and Accounts

Step 2: Select the Exchange account or other work email account and tap Delete Account.

tap delete account

Step 3: Tap Delete from My iPhone to confirm the deletion.

Fix 2: Remove configuration profile

Configuration profiles (generally installed by a workplace or school) can also enforce you to use a passcode.

Step 1: Open Settings and choose General > Profiles & Device Management.

tap profiles

Step 2: If there is a configuration profile listed on the page, select it and tap Delete Profile.

Step 3: Enter your passcode to confirm the deletion. After removing the configuration profile, you should find the Turn Passcode Off option is no longer greyed out.

Fix 3: Reset all settings

If none of the methods above works, then the quickest fix is to reset your iPhone to clear any settings that enforce a passcode.

Step 1: Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

reset all settings

Step 2: Enter your passcode, and tap Reset All Settings again.

Step 3: Wait for the reset to complete. After reset, the Turn Passcode Off option is no longer greyed out and you can turn off your passcode smoothly.
